Your Step-By-Step Guide To Bridge Construction
Most people only build a bridge once so can have no prior experience or knowledge of what’s involved.

Bridge It NZ has had the privilege of working with thousands of clients all over the North Island. Rest assured we know the bridge construction process inside and out. Our engineering partner, Tiaki Engineering Consultants, haven’t designed a bridge yet that hasn’t received resource and building consent!

If you’re embarking on your first bridge construction journey, here’s an outline of the key steps involved.

1. Site Visit

Bridge It NZ will meet with you on site for an obligation-free assessment. We’ll discuss the best place to position your bridge, potential flood water height, the type of bridge and materials best suited to your location, foundation options and whether any retaining might be required. After this visit you’ll receive a letter of offer from us, detailing our proposed solution and price.

2. Award The Contract

Once you’ve signed on with us, a Bridge It NZ engineer will visit your site promptly to conduct a site survey. This information will dictate your bridge design requirements and later be used to seek resource consent on your behalf.

3. Bridge Concept & Design

An initial bridge concept will be supplied to you for review. Once accepted, the detailed design of your bridge will get underway. We will provide this to you and explain the construction methodology.

4. Consent

We’ll submit your bridge plans to the appropriate council authority for resource and building consent. We know all the rules and regulations around bridges and will take care of all the paperwork and correspondence for you – leave it to us.

5. Fabrication

Once consent has been approved, we will order the components and materials required to complete bridge construction.

6. Installation

Our expert team will arrive on site and install your new bridge, ready for use. We will work with you to minimise disruption.

7. Code Of Compliance

On completion we submit your application to the relevant council, complete a final site visit with council staff, and pass the Code of Compliance certificate onto you once your bridge has been officially signed off.
