Boston Forest Bridge crossing Mangatu Stream

South of Benneydale in the Boston Forest, Bridge It NZ were tasked with the replacement of an existing timber bridge not capable of taking heavy loads.  Spanning the Mangatu Stream, the brief was to design and construct a bridge suitable for forestry activity good for tracked machinery including fully laden logging trucks.

The bridge is a 10m x 4m steel beam supporting a timber deck with galvanised pipe handrails and included the completion of kerbing. The bridge has been designed to take full HN-HO-72 load in accordance with the NZTA Bridge Manual.  The abutments are precast concrete with augured piles and the need for extensive retaining was reduced with the longer span.

The large catchment area meant a bridge was the ideal solution, not to mention it doesn’t require clearing of debris.
